When used for military purposes the flag shall conform to the regulations of the United States. Officially adopted in 1909. Prior to that, New Hampshire had numerous regimental flags to represent the state. The flag has only been changed once, in 1931 when the states seal was modified.

Approved by the General Assembly on July 6, 1915. In 1969, the word "ILLINOIS" was added under the Great Seal of the flag.



The first State Flag bearing the State Coat of Arms was authorized by the General Assembly in 1799. An act of the General Assembly of June 13, 1907, standardized the flag and required that the blue field match the blue of Old Glory.


The device of arms of the State flag was adopted in 1778 and the present flag is a modern version of a Revolutionary War flag.

The New Jersey state flag is defined and described in Joint Resolution No.2 of 1896.




January 1897. The colours are the same as those used in the flags carried by the regiments of the State of Rhode Island during the American Revolution, the War of 1812 and the Mexican War.


The present flag, Michigans third since becoming a state in 1837, was adopted in 1911.




May 29, 1895. The General Assembly of 1897 provided an official description of the flag.




The Coat of Arms was adopted in 1779, 12 years before Vermont became a state.









Adopted in its final form in 1971; before that, the obverse side depicted a pine tree.

Adopted 1863 Joint Resolution 4, which provided a design for a state flag that was substantially the same as the regimental flags already in use by Wisconsin troops. The most significant changes made by the 1979 act were adding the word "Wisconsin" and the statehood date "1848".

Todays Lone Star Flag was first adopted on January 24, 1839 as the national flag of the Republic of Texas. The flag was later adopted as the state flag when Texas became the 28th state in 1845.

In 1861, the Virginia State Convention passed an ordinance establishing a design virtually identical to that in current use.

In early 1955, Atlanta attorney John Sammons Bell suggested a new state flag for Georgia that would incorporate the Confederate Battle Flag. Signed into law on February 13, 1956, the bill became effective the following July 1.
In January 2001, the Georgia state flag was changed.






In 1912, the Louisiana State Legislature officially adopted the present state flag.




The state seal imprinted on a field of navy blue was approved by the General Assembly in 1928.

First flown October 11, 1880. It also was flown October 25, 1888, at Gettysburg Battlefield for ceremonies dedicating monuments to Maryland regiments of the Army of the Potomac. Officially, it was adopted as the State flag in 1904 (Chapter 48, Acts of 1904).

Adopted on June 5, 1911. February 28, 1929, the General Assembly stipulated the precise colours of red and blue as the same as the national flag. March 31, 1964, the General Assembly further modified the 1911 legislation by revising the distance from the staff for the letter C and its diameter.

The current Nevada State Flag design was adopted March 26, 1929, and revised in 1991.
